Coaching Service

Parent Guidance

👪

Supporting parents to help confidently, not anxiously.

A session built specifically for parents — understanding what your child is actually going through, how to support without taking over, and working through the questions you might not feel comfortable asking your own child directly.

This is genuinely how T1D Player Support started. After Ellen spoke at her old school's end-of-year speech day about managing sport and studies alongside T1D, it wasn't only pupils who wanted to keep talking to her — parents did too. They wanted the athlete's perspective, not just clinical advice, on how to support their own children.

This topic can be booked as part of either an online coaching call or a face-to-face session — choose whichever format works best for you when booking.

Why It Helps

Benefits

The athlete's perspective, not just parental instinct

Hearing directly from someone who was once the young athlete in this exact position, not just general parenting advice.

Support without taking over

Practical ways to stay involved and build your child's confidence and independence at a pace that actually works.

A place for the questions that feel hard to ask directly

Some questions are easier to ask another adult than your own child. This is that space.

Confidence that the dream doesn't have to shrink

Reassurance, from someone who's lived it, that a diagnosis doesn't have to mean scaling back sporting ambitions.

Real Scenarios

Where This Fits

Just after a diagnosis

Trying to work out how to support a newly diagnosed young athlete without knowing where to start.

Deciding how involved to be on matchday or at training

Finding the right balance between staying involved and letting your child manage things themselves.

Talking to a coach or school for the first time

Working out how to have that early conversation with coaching staff, before it's ever needed in the moment.

Ideal For

Parents of young athletes with Type 1 Diabetes — particularly those newly navigating a diagnosis — who want the athlete's perspective alongside their child's medical guidance, not instead of it.
